Berhala Island

Awesome red cliffs of Berhala

The Berhala Island is a small forested island situated in Sandakan Bay in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.

The island is approximately 5 hectares in size and has prominent cliffs at its northern end. Many birds of prey can be seen on and around Berhala, including brahminy kites, serpent eagles and sea eagles.

It is also famous for its hiking route which leads to the edge of the island's magnificent red cliffs!

HOW TO GET THERE

Berhala Island is located just about 30 mins by boat from Sandakan town jetty. You have to go to Sandakan town centre to get a boat to ferry you to Berhala Island.

At the jetty, there is a ferry service to and from Berhala Island. Ask around to know which boats to take.

There are actually two trails that leads to the peak of the Red Cliffs of Berhala.
